OBIWAM: Ore exploration with muons

Ore Bodies Imaged With Atmospheric Muons (MINE.THE.GAP 2019)

Locating dense ore bodies within lower-density host rock is crucial for efficient mineral exploration. The MTG019-OBIWAM project demonstrates how such deposits can be detected reliably and remotely using non-invasive muographic scans.

Within OBIWAM, Muon Solutions applies cosmic-ray muon imaging to map an ore deposit deep underground in a mine in Germany. By integrating muographic imaging into mining, we help advance more precise, efficient, and non-destructive exploration techniques. This opens new opportunities for mineral prospecting beyond conventional methods.
