Detecting the unseen

About

‘Carl Sagan spoke fluently between biology and geology and astrophysics and physics. If you move fluently across those boundaries, you realize that science is everywhere; science is not something you can step around or sweep under the rug.’

— Neil deGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist, author, and science communicator

We combine astroparticle sciences with geosciences to innovate powerful engineering applications, but that’s not all we do

Muon Solutions Ltd is a Finnish-based cross-disciplinary technology and consultancy group established in 2016. The company’s backgrounds are in particle physics, engineering, geology, geophysics, ore exploration, mining technology, mining safety and planetary geology. Muon Solutions’ diverse backgrounds in scientific research and engineering and many years of working in the exploration and mining industry enable the company to respond in innovative ways for developing and manufacturing solutions for our valued clients.

In ore exploration, Muon Solutions’ services cover the whole spectrum from desktop-based research and reporting to boots-on-ground field campaigns and follow-up targeting in both Finland and abroad. In mining environments, our services range from safety issues to radon surveys in both open-cast and underground mines. Muon Solutions is well equipped to solve also a variety of technical and practical problems that may hinder daily businesses in mines and exploration fields.

In addition to flexible consultancy and unique technical solutions, Muon Solutions invest significant resources in R&D. The key project is built on the utilization of muon particles in a variety of geoscientific research issues. The muons are one of the most penetrating form of naturally occurring radiation on Earth and can provide information of the subterranean deposits and structures. We are able to measure density contrasts of the sediments and rock formations with muons by using our state-of-the-art downhole geophysical logging instruments. Our technology allows us to detect density variations in bedrock or surficial deposits, including those related to ore deposits and their possible hydrothermal alteration zones. There are, however, also many other possible application areas.
