Muon Solutions is proud to announce that is in the partnership organising the second AFTEG field course for students of economic geology. The name “AFTEG” stands for ‘Applied Field Techniques in Economic Geology’. The next 6-day long intensive (but practical) field course will be held in the Central Lapland greenstone belt, northern Finland, in May 26th –31st 2019.
The AFTEG course is primarily intended for the Doctoral students of the Oulu Mining School (OMS), Finland. The course constitutes of a series of themes that change from day to day and include, for example, bedrock mapping, boulder hunting, state-of-the-art geochemical sampling and standard geophysical ground surveys. Practical exercises alternate with occasional key note talks and insights from visiting specialists. In addition, there will be data and sample-handling tasks as well as demonstrations of numerous techniques commonly used by exploration professionals, not forgetting indicator mineral studies and related microscopy.
The main aims of the course are: (i) to provide students practice in team work, (ii) demonstrate how exploration programs are planned, organised and executed, (iii) introduce students to various exploration methods and techniques, (iv) promote ore geology and exploration and mining industries as a career choice, (v) encourage collaboration between geologists and applied geophysicists of different backgrounds and representing different organisations and (vi) increase understanding of the region studied during the course.
